they tracked your employee purchases basically. if they saw you buying a shit ton of stuff you would get questioned. but it was hard to prove.
we would also snipe odd shit. like xxx refurbished flagship graphic card from 3 years ago comes in for $400 look it up in the system and employee price is $50. it happens lol
