Reminds me of this Christchurch 2011 earthquake memorial nonsense 185 Chairs(https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/185-chairs) Iirc, the artist got $425-500 000 for the 'Sculpture' from the City Council ($2200-2800 per second hand source chair). Pure Clown world - Take a seat and have a dump.

Yap, big disasters, earthquakes, foods etc. often is used to fill pocked of .... certain people. Instead to give money to victims, relatives, to help them to rebuild his life, they waste money in many similar shenanigans.

Those look like bargain-basement second-hand chairs. I guess painting them all white makes them artistic.

Exactly. They were second hand/ throw away and he did just paint them - 'but remember it's all about the artistry of what it represents bla bla bla '. Juxtaposing the visual emptiness after tragedy.

Some world renown sculpter 'gifted' the city 2 bronze cast sculptures 15 or so yrs ago (that kinda resembled that rock looking guy off Fantastic four) they stuck them in the Avon river that runs through the city - 'Gifted to the city for $800 000 a piece. Something something about the intersection of nature and man nonsense.

After 9/11 the City was given two 8-9ft pieces of steel beam for a memorial. Paid a local 'artist ' $50 000 to bend one end . Looks like an upside down question mark.

I'm sure I have something "artsy" laying around that is worth t least $500,000 to these people. I'll go check.
