I know why Marines are not allowed to keep their issued weapons or personal weapons in the barracks. Have you ever been in a barracks on a Friday or Saturday night? Imagine a frat house party, but only males and all in peak physical fitness. Add gallons of beer and some liquor. It's like why they have stupid warn labels on things, they learned from past experience that you have to tell some people not to eat the Tide pods, don't hold the toaster while sitting in a bathtub, don't play Russian roulette with a semi-auto pistol .... No imagine all those young Marines full booze trying prove they're the toughest marine on the base. Now mix in weapons....

They would shoot up stupid shit, not each other. Bigger issue would be having to recover weapons from the local pawn shops
One year for my re-qual I was at Camp Pendleton. One afternoon we were doing our practice fire and a jack rabbit ran across the range about 20 yards in front of the targets. Almost everybody was doing a mag-dump while the shooting coaches and range officer were yelling and screaming at us. Must have been at least 400 rounds fired at that rabbit, but he made it all the way across and over the berm. Some days were fun.
