Mel Gibson is an excellent director and a good writer. No artist can every really hope to achieve mastery without going through an "antisemitic" phase. That is, no one engaged in mastering an art can claim to have mastered it without questioning all the assumptions they've made throughout their life.
Including that it is somehow "wrong" or "evil" to question groups of people based on stereotyping.
They call it stereotyping because, like seeing with any depth perception, you have to have both eyes open to see any subject in detail for what it is, instead of simply what it appears to be.
