I know this is a joke, but I'd guess it's a bad valve cover gasket. Oil leaked all over and somehow ignited.
Look at how much space there is to work on that engine. I miss those days :(
I know today you need 3 foot 1/4 inch round fingers to fix anything. On cheby colorado 05 model to remove 5spd trans on a 4 banger model says take out starter which is a disaster. One must remove intake manifold but but but if you get 4) 12 inch extension with a 6 and 3 will let you go in the smallest hole next to driverside of rad and straight back removes one nut off a stud and boom trans out
On the CTS-V you have to take the whole front bumper cover off to replace a headlight bulb. It is so friken stupid.

Ah but there is a way to do it without taking the bumper completely off.
I too have changed a head gasket. It's easy they said, don't over-tighten when putting it back together they left out, this is what I ended up with too.

Never felt a bolt stretch huh lol. Lesson for ya always use are is doing head gasket never go with stock bolts most of they are stretch bolts and designed as one time use. so a Oops cost more bolts ,studs are best your welcome
