It's not about trying to look like Rambo it's about making the knife move to see if it rattles or feels blade heavy or handle heavy, or unwieldy. Most knife use is close in small movements you aren't stabbing from behind you like a Hollywood haymaker.

If I'm testing an expensive knife I'm gonna look like Rambo. Test it against my natural movements to see if it's too long and I'm gonna cut myself like a retard. This guy is a little ridiculous but it isn't from his open hand movements its his slash technique. He should be stabbing more. More stabby ninja less three musketeers. Be a stabby ninja rambo.

You move a knife around to see if it has flaws. Does it rattle or can you feel wobble or movement? Bad hinge/spring. Do the jimps compress from palm pressure? Poor quality material. Does the blade feel too long or short, or unbalanced?

This is so hilarious. I've been to many gun shoes, seen a lot of characters I can imagine would do this, but have never seen it in person. Did have a kid who was selling batons with his Dad get in a karate stance to show me how it was done but his Dad took it from him and immediately took over the questions I had. But he was just a teen, I would expect that.
