It's from Slashdot, which tends to be a very left leaning junk tech site.

The US has had very few lockdowns, and the lockdowns there have been have been strictly local affairs.

But yes, it's presumably COVID related, which is frustrating because had we taken the two opportunities available to us (close down for a month early in the pandemic, and keep the borders closed with strict quarantines for those returning from foreign countries until COVID went away), or "Two months of everyone getting mandatory vaccines, with teachers, first responders, nursing staff, and others likely to spread the disease put higher in the queue" which was possible early this year, we wouldn't be in this situation.

Unfortunately we have politicians too chickenshit, and too pandering, or too out of touch, for either to have been done.

I seem to remember someone trying to close the borders for a while when this happened. What was his name again? Got called a xenophobe...

Every tech site is faaaaarrr left. This the thought of practically every tech person and every women in general.

The companies are far left and the consoooooomer types who buy their weight in electronics yearly (no small feat given their girth) and hang out on these sites to jerk off to video card specs are far left. With devs you have a decent chance of running into a libertarian or a populist especially among the older guard, they just know to keep their heads down. A lot of devs remember the old internet, it's where they honed their skills. A lot of devs have seen up close and personal how google and FB work, how the data is mined, they have been talking around the water cooler for years about this stuff and where it might go. They have seen how these companies are constantly trying to make them cheaper and more expendable... Winston was a censor but he might as well have been a dev, both must be painfully aware of the machine and it's mechanisms to do their jobs and both are powerless to stop it.

You are right though all the sites have been ruined, github is pozzed, reddit should be nuked from orbit, open source projects have their own middle management PC fuckheads and politics (why would I do it for free like a goddamn janny if you have sucked all the fun out you assholes!?). Even Linus just got tired and gave in. Stallman was right. I've just ghosted the whole thing, it's a paycheck at this point, if I could feed muh huwhyte children another way I would.

Hackernews is sometimes partially self aware, but they never go to far out of bounds.

I think the most insightful (political) comment I've seen from them was the realization that the proper response to Trump comments was not to instantaneous, instinctually, believe the exact opposite stance. Big brain time, i know. If you think you're beginning manipulated, and you do the opposite of that person, you're still being manipulated. You should ignore completely.

That's sounds real good, but the next comment was how it was the smart persons stance to censor "lab leak" theories because Trump said it and everyone sucked each other off.

They do admit covid "broke" tech communities, but they can't figure out how

I’m a painter you can send me your nudes and I’ll paint them and send you 40% of the proceeds. Always an option. Also an option to anybody reading this

40% of 0 is still 0 Maroon. Nobody wants to see that.

Which is sad because I would expect them to have the mathematical intuition to understand the implausibility of containing a virus temporally to an extent that you never have to deal with it again.

These people are by definition smarter than this. Which means they are intentionally lying to themselves for some reason.

Just because someone has the intellectual capacity to see through this literally retarded bullshit, the desire to not be ostracized is stronger than the desire to know the truth. I saw this all the time when I was in college ( engineering, definitely more of us that weren't typical college Marxist types than like all other disciplines but you'd be surprised how many engineering students were like that )

Theyre smart, but not immune to demoralization. Theyre midwits

They simply believe what the TV tells them. I know a lot of smart people who actually trust CNN. Brainwashing is the universal equalizer. Not that right wingers are immune. They take anything any anti-establishment doctor says and parrot it without understanding.

Look! A doctor who agrees with me and did I mention he’s a DOCTOR?!?!? After spending the previous day railing about how stupid doctors are.

Holy fuck is that rich coming from you, TDS boy.

Depends, many software developers are right leaning or in my own case, third positionist.

You'd be surprised how many of them think this way. They point at China and say if only we took measures as extreme then we'd have been over covid by now.

I've seen it multiple places and shut it down in a few forums. I can't say that I've ever received any meaningful responses after mentioning that Trump did indeed try to close borders for a while.

When I brought up that Trump tried to close the borders as early as January or February, they have no recollection of it!

I had some stories archived about that, but haven't had need for them in a while. Not sure what happened to the links.

2 weeks mask up and lock down... except for

Walmart and other mega corporations they are needed!

The fruits of MSM, ladies and gents.

Close the borders? That's racist.

Vaccinate people with jobs first? That's discrimination against the less privileged.

So.... it's the less privileged, lesser race's fault Covid still exists?

Considering that we banned basically everyone from leaving the country or entering the country here in Oz and it's made zero difference, this idiot is off his goddamn rocker. In fact, Oz being a hermit state the last 18 months means that almost nobody has natural immunity in the country, meaning that once the borders are open again it will be much, much worse. It's why Sweden has fuck all when it comes to new cases, they allowed everyone to gain natural immunity and didn't have lockdown shit at all - and now they are fine. It might have been prudent to temporarily close the borders when they had zero fucking clue as to the mortality of it, but if this is a "pandemic" it's the most half-arsed one to exist.

Slashcuck is rife with soy-filled faggots LARPing as "smart." Yet they eagerly consoom anything the MSM tells them, and even argue against thermodynamics: https://files.catbox.moe/bkxpsq.png
