My spouse and I ask 'permission' all the time. Stupid, trivial stuff. Stuff we've never said 'no' to. I'm pretty sure neither of us have said 'no' to each other in 20+ years.
But, it's part of being in a healthy relationship. Making sure you are in touch with the other person's needs. Making sure to verbally acknowledge that "me time" results in you having to spend more time with the kids / etc.
