Ever try feeding a crowd of seagulls and one slightly larger species does NOT want french fries? It stares at you , hoping and wishing you dangle meat, then if you finally do hold out a piece of meat that one lone seagull (tern?) rapidly swoops at you and you toss the scrap of meat and it catches it and flys away happy.

Some birds HATE french fries, or burned their mouths in the past, and only want meat.

One time in florida I was staying on one of those hotels over looking the beach. I had cookies so I would throw them towards people and the seagulls would swarm the people. Hundreds of seagulls. It was good fun

No your source was interesting as fuck. I'm not saying you got it wrong. It appears StoneToss "did". I think he's going for a more cultural look at it rather than scientific.
