I'm sure, but my mom would only by the cheap $2 ones, from Jamesway or similar I think, because I was always losing them.

Right. 15 years ago I made a trip to Russia in March and purchased a very nice pair. Sadly I lost one after three days . I remember the weave being very close and thick. Extremely comfortable like those woolen hiking socks you can get. Not cheap but well worth the price.
