If you actually watch the show, you'll see a number of episodes where Rick is clearly aware of his degeneracy and even shows some amount of remorse. He uses science and logic to explain away his guilt, but remains utterly alone and almost universally hated by everyone but his family, and other degenerates. And even his family sees it, but they're all too broken and weak to do anything about it. I think the show is hilarious, and I think that while the "hero" of the show is generally glamorized, the episodes that show the result of his degeneracy turn it from comedy to tragedy. Rick is a tragic hero that lays waste to everything in his path, including his infinite families. His nihilism brings him nothing but misery. Overall, the show depicts the ultimate results of Rick's behavior as negative.
