I didn't post as a link because poal can't thumbnail GIFs correctly and you don't get to see the transparency effect by clicking on the direct link.

Because it's a black animation over a transparent background and black is the default fill color for thumbnails.

Why not just let it be transparent?

Because thumbnails are in .jpg format to save on size and loading time.
