Idk if you and I read the same picture, but I didn't see where it said to bury a muffler. If you're broadening the context to "pollution bad," I (generally) agree with you. But to return the goal posts to where they started: oil dumped in the ground from when this article was written ain't the cause of our current city groundwater problems.
