If you live in the city maybe. Mine are in my pocket when I leave home, drive 15-40 miles at minimum as the nearest anything is 7.5mi away. The office is 20 miles away, when I bother to show up in person.
Once at the office or at home, the keys are tossed aside, I don't need that shit making noise or filling my pockets.
Each walk to and from the car adds up.
Store and back: walk to car, drive to store, walk in store, walk to car, drive home, walk in home.
I think the walking is a set fraction of the total distance traveled. It adds up at the same ratio'd rate as driving does.
What? We're talking literally, here. Each step you take with your keys on you is adding more distance to your key's travel. Each trip to/from work, each trip to the grocery store, each step through the isles... Add up each foot of that travel, your keys have traveled that much further than your car.
Unless you've never removed the ignition key from the column of that particular car, that key has traveled further than the car.
If you only consider the key's travel when they are in the vehicle, then yes.
I think they are measuring in feet.
I dunno, I measure mine in inches still.
