When the first amendment fails, they'll create complicated enough lie that cannot be unraveled via a short discussion. That lie will target the 2nd amendment giving justification for confiscation of guns. From there, it's game over. They are going to lose this fight, but it will be very costly to both sides. The problem is that it will leave America very weak to its international enemies. Think China and/or Islam.
