I'm not too clued up on the keto and these other trendy diets.

I generally like a good slab of real meat with a nice portion of fresh veggies and not much in the way of sides of carbs.

What's the keto bus about? Destroying your insulin levels?

All the keto diet is is an extreme version of the Atkin's Diet from 20 years ago. Very low to no sugars/carbs.

Atkins is a very different diet. Atkins is low carb high protein. Keto is low carb high fat.

Depending on your lean mass you might end up with 150g protein easily on keto.

Keto functions to address insulin resistance by adhering to a macronutrient distribution designed to minimize insulin response. Eventually, it will restore insulin balance/sensitivity. This is important because insulin is a dominant hormone in the sense that its presence and absence influences the presence, absence, and performance of other hormones. Without getting too sciency, a consequence of insulin resistance is intense hunger cravings and frequency among other things. Therefore, when insulin balance is restored, satiety comes more frequently and is m ore lasting and when hunger hits, it is mild enough to be ignored. It is a wordly difference where affected people cannot ignore hunger because it is intensely ravaging.

Since keto has become mainstream again and it has been coopted by too many people, the phrase alone will become a buzzword that people will arbitrarily dismiss.

So, in more general terms, eating foods with high concentrations of fat (least insulin responsive) and low concentrations of carbohydrates (highest insulin response) help remedy insulin resistance over time. Furthermore, if paired with some form of intermittent fasting, you can prolong your periods of baseline insulin levels to achieve maximum effect. Using these two techniques together hand in hand can help restore insulin balance to the extent that anyone would tell you that the biggest reason why they saw weight loss over time was because their body did not signal them to eat inappropriately as before.

According to my research, a growing number of specialists are now rebranding what we know as 'obesity-related diseases' to insulin-resistant-related diseases to the extent that obesity itself is rebranded as a symptom within the same categories of other symptoms the general populace associates with obesity related diseases. It is fairly new ish ay the moment, since a number of research articles I have found have proposed mechanisms that connect insulin resistance and other health issues, so insulin as the causative element is still being researched on. As it stands now, insulin resistance, as a correlational element to health and wellness is established enough to give eating patterns like keto momentum.
