dont slaughter me bro....

whats wrong with objectivism?

I know everyone hates Ayn Rand, but I can never figure out why.

Maybe I've only seen the old stuff, maybe she changed her tune and I dont know, or maybe you see something more sinister there.

really asking, not trolling

That's a hard thing to really focus in on - The problem isn't with the basic idea - I like the basic idea; it's just that it kind if metastasizes from the basic "You pursue your ends and I'll pursue mine" into things like "Of course corporations should offshore their manufacturing - They're just pursuing the biggest possible profit"

It just gets taken too far, like libertarianism. Take global free trade to its ultimate conclusion and you've got global homogenization of economies. It's naive and utopian, IMO. Needs more nationalism.

ok, that makes sense, I like nationalism, how could I not, I'm American, our culture and history revolves around it (at the crucial points, imho).

I believe Ayn Rand made the argument that big corps or 'robber barons' could not obtain immense power WITHOUT the assistance of interfering government (subsidies, allowances etc). Thats why I liked her ideas, because they were flagrantly capitalist and she openly says "I am for lezze faire, truly free markets". I also liked her stances on the need for government to have its powers strictly limited.

I can see, how that would in fact, prevent a gov from telling a corp "you cant trade here if you manufacture there" and I dont have a solution for that, but I would still want an economy free from gov overreach and tampering to rig the winners.

Thanks for your answer, lots to think about there.
