Why do we immaculately preserve our dead bodies? Then bury them 6 ft underground.
When in a billion years, aliens find our cold dead rock embedded with all of these perfectly preserved human bodies in ornate caskets, they're going to wonder why we're such weirdos with our dead. They're going to wonder if we sometimes dug them up to admire them, otherwise why go through all of the trouble. We don't, but they'll think we did!
My family knows my wishes to just be tossed into a hole or cremated, and don't spend more than $100 on it. So probably just the hole, that's fine. I won't care either way, thank you. They'll of course NOT abide by that wish, and do the weird preservation shit with my dead body.
We don’t mummify our dead! The formaldehyde keeps our remains looking presentable for a few days so people don’t have to say their final goodbyes to a smelly rotting corpse, but if any aliens dig us up in future I doubt they’ll think we were exhuming them to admire their decaying bodies.
