In the last 6 months I sifted through and tossed a ton of power Adapters. I spent significant amount of time making sure all my devices had a power cord and tossed all the extras.... I have since found two devices that now have no power cords.

DO NOT BE FOOLED!

Also, power adaptors are often genetic. If the amperage, wattage and polarity match up then you can probably use them on another device.

Pro tip : switch polarity by switching the wires between adapter and tip. Amperage doesn't have to match exactly but must be more than required by device.

Every device manufacturer: Do NOT use any other power cord but the one we supplied.

Reality: All other power cords work unless from a foreign country.

Power cords will work with the devices that have the -same- *different voltage and amperage, if they do not then they will short or burn out the power converter. So, no. All power cords will NOT "work unless from a foreign country".

They only say that because they know normies think electricity is magic.

Once you say "but the output amps are the same!" they will tell you "oh yea, well its cool then"

No shit.

You'd be surprised how much commonly known stuff isn't commonly known.

There is the valley of rusty drill bits, behold the chest of 1,000 sizes of bolt, and the misty field of scrap plywood and 2x4's.

One day all this shit will be yours, ya poor bastard.

My father and mother were saving clothing from the 60s and 70s in many boxes for their grand kids to wear. Mice made nests out of them in the garage. At least some mammals benefited.

Woof, all those bell bottoms are dust in the wind.

It probably was even worse than that. My mom died. My dad was dating again. He is going on a first date in the 2000s wearing something colorful from the 60s. (I wasn't there.) His date goes something like, "Nope. We are getting you a new shirt." My dad wasn't a hippie, but he wore things that looked like wallpaper from the 60s that were hippiesh. Think Brady Bunch.

E: Also, I'm certainly no fashion maven, but the shit my dad wore was out so far out. I didn't really give a shit what I wore as long as it was bland. My dad was wearing massively outdated flashy shit.

E2: Plaid was as flashy I've ever gotten in my life. Maybe a striped dress shirt. Other than that, solid colors. And not too bright.

I have a warehouse I'm converting to condos so far I've framed one and have realized how much junk I have

Yeah, went out to work on the project car the other day and I didn't realize how much shit I have piled around that car. Tools, parts, junk, etc.

long outlived the products they were originally designed for

Don't take your chances on a 15-20 year old AC adapter. Chances of killing the device you intend on powering gets higher and higher the older the wall wart is. Many a Commodore 64 have been killed by their original power cubes.

Okay, well.. that one is older than I am, but this applies to all cheap old DC bricks. This comment could go on and on and on with all of the different modes of failure.

Can I just buy a bunch of configurable universal AC adapters?

Sure, I have a ton of em. Just toss 'em after about 10 years. Most of these things certainly weren't built to last.

I've been horrified at what I've found inside these piece of shit DC wall warts.. half-wave rectification.. Jackon, Fuhjyyu, and/or CapXon, capacitors..

As someone who recently had to source an AC adapter for a piece of hi-fi equipment I salute this gentleman's foresight.

Get a sharpie paint marker and write on the side of the power brick what it is for. Never have to guess if you still need it again.

I keep'em even when the device is long gone. Most of them are standard voltages (5,9,and 12). They come in handy for all sorts of things as long as the max output power is more than you need for your project.

AC to DC will always be useful

They are all beautiful little transformers.

Why would I throw them away? Every few electrical projects (ok, rarely) I find myself using an old one..

THIS IS MY LEGACY! lol

I have literaly 50 adapters maybe more with no clue what they go to or could be used for

you fuckers need to stay out of my closet boxes

thems ac adapters is MINE
