What hammerhead cuts speed base on the flat? NOBODY!

a moron...the same type of moron that also cuts crown flat as opposed to upside down and backwards against the fence (assuming one has the blade capacity to complete the cut)...you know those compound angles given to cut crown on the flat are based upon the crown being milled to sit at exactly a certain spring angle and what are the odds that it's actually milled to such accuracy? too boot, what if you need to cut a 45.2* angle?

yeah, I do it for a living....

Yeah, less blade deflection cutting base horizontally, less friction burning and less surface area to cut through.

Me too:

blade deflection is a serious issue when using a 12" blade...the only solution is to go to a full kerf thick bodied blade like a Freud Ultimate one (and yeah, they cost some serious coin)...after my Makita LS1211 finally got too old a few years ago I switched to a modern 10" version which has the same capacity vertically...I did seriously think of the 12" version with a huge capacity but decided I was tired of dealing with deflection issues
