They absolutely self sacrifice! Their fight of flight instinct is so strong that that's why so many try to fight restraint or flee. They try one and if that isn't working, they immediately try the other. The jogger in Georgia was fleeing, it wasn't working so he resorted to fighting and that didn't work either. The other jogger incident in Georgia (the Wendy's one), he was resisting/fighting and that wasn't working so he tried to flee. I'm not picking on Georgia, I'm just being lazy on a Monday afternoon and that 2:30pm feeling kicked it.
