They're a lot cleaner than what they used to be back in the Odd Lots days.

You can go to Ollie's for that "We just dumped this shit on the floor because that's the way it came on the truck" look these days.

When they went from being Pic-N-Save to Big Lots, it was still a big stinky mess, only with way higher prices. So we never went back.

Maybe it was just that one. The missus still wanted to go there all the time, I just stopped taking her there and she forgot about them after awhile, I guess. Now she just buys stupid bullshit online instead all the time, so it's not like a win, I just don't have to go there now, I guess...

Yeah, Consolidated Stores bought out the McFrugals/Pic-N-Save chain and converted them all. To be fair, Big Lots is just a larger Dollar General these days. They rarely have any closeout merchandise, if any at all. That seemed to change about 2005 when they cut a bunch of stores. I guess it's more profitable to sell chinese-made garbage and crap furniture since Valuable City has gone upscale.

The Ollie's chain out of Pennsylvania has kind of taken over that capacity, that store looks like the junk-laden flea market-esque stores that Odd Lots/Big Lots used to be.

Okay, thanks for explanation. I stopped a few times while passing through small city in rural area about that era. Am really picky about not buying unnecessary or clunky stuff but found some great deals on name brand, slightly unusual, items. Last 2 times I went there had really gone downhill, with empty shelves and hundreds of duplicate items beginning to grow dust. Was gone within a year or so.

I've never understood the buying/shopping mentality. You need to find her a good hobby that doesn't involve shopping to make her forget about shopping.
