Well, the policy here, and the way it's enforced, has made me hesitant to downvote even the most low-value and trollish posts and comments. Every time I click that down arrow I wonder if I'm fucking myself by trying to help keep the site tidy. So there's that. Just my unasked opinion, and it's worth every ounce.
This is inaccurate.
Only accounts abusing the downvote to target legit users (not spam and trolls/alts) will get slapped by the algorithm.
That may very well be 100% true, but that's not the impression you've given the newbies like me. The impression we've got is that we'll be punished for using the downvote button "too much," and then the definition of "too much" is left to our imaginations. And our imaginations have been fueled by several years of Clown World shit in both online and real world situations.
It's hard to trust ANY authority at this point. No offense intended, but I really have trouble trusting you.
Check the posts/comments history of those who have been tagged. You'll notice a pattern.
