It's different. Hearing a story about someone sitting in a trench in WW1 covered in their own shit and the entrails of their best friend is different from experiencing it. The story can be forgotten. The lived experience can't. That soldier will remember the horror every day for the rest of his life. The story will be forgotten in a day to two. My first job when adjusted for inflation paid $100k/yr. That was normal. I watched as wages plummeted year after year, now that kind of pay is out of the realm of possibility. Most zoomers will never be able work up to that level, much less know what it's like for that to be a starting salary. But I can never know what it's like to live life without the possibility of being able to afford the modest quality of life that allows. As far detached as I am from the reality of abject poverty Boomers like Scott are even farther detached. I'm decades younger than Scott. They are similarly incapable of comprehending the racial realities and that total destruction of normal sexual relations. They still live in the world where the "mean" kids tease the one nigger at school for "no reason" because that's the world they grew up in. A world that's been gone for 50 years.
