When I was in grade school in the 50s-60s a kid moved from Alabama. He said he hated school because he had to wear shoes. He used to carry them to school and put them on to come inside, and take them off at the end of school to walk home.

That is hillarious.

Also, I'm not from that generation but around that time things were very different that it kind of makes sense in a specific kind of rural area.

Interesting. A parasite causing degradation and stalled development in White communities. That sounds familiar.

That is fascinating and so depressing. Thanks for that link, I think I never would have heard about this otherwise. Wow.

During the 60s-70s the cool surfer dudes in Calif would go down the Tijuana and buy sandals made from tires. We called them 'huruaches'. The some of the posers would be like 'yeah, I got these when I was surfing down in Baja'.

i come from a line of Appalachians that got one pair of shoes a year if he or she were lucky. "hand me downs" were the norm. and those shoes were only used for school and very cold weather.

i think my dad modeled them after the ho chi minh sandals of the viet cong of whom he killed many many. but he was one to recognize ingenuity and put it to practice. that's why he carried AKs while in the jungle with the montagnards. he said, "you could bury that som'bitch in a river's muck and come back to it 6 months later and it would fire just fine." i miss the old man.

didn't all the niggers flee to the south back then?

Nope, from the south. Migrated north for factory jobs in what is now the rust belt. And to spread cultural enrichment to northern cities.
