An older relative graduated top of her nursing class from leading non-Ivy League School in the 1940s. Was interesting to hear her talk about folk superstitions and non-effective medical treatments that were being disproven. The old wisdom was that if you could see the top and bottom of whites of eyes, i.e. the lids did not touch colored part of eye, they were a WITCH. Turns out was hyperthyroidism, still dangerous to those around them.

Yes, had a friend/roommate for a bit that had it, played for a band I ran sound for. Had been a decent smalltown journalist, but the disease really fucked him up during media downsizing. Lost his insurance/treatment and really cost him. Super hyper chainsmoker and paranoid when off meds, but only one that I ever met that could do all the Rory Gallagher licks without much effort. Didn't really drink or drug anymore but 1 and a half beers and he would start explaining how simple Hendrix and Clapton were, did their riffs doubletime.
