Are they scared or are they confident? I think they accelerated so hard because they realised no one was doing anything and they could get away with what they liked. So far they've been 100% correct, I hope eventually they'll be proven to be incorrect.
If they were confident, they wouldn't be accelerating. They're scared that they may not achieve their goal in time, and the backlash will put them in the ground.
They have been correct for the vocal minority, but the majority are normal people who live traditional lives.

Why not? Most of them are elderly and won't get to see their utopia any other way. If there's no danger why not make it happen in their lifetime?
