True, I think my grandparents had an older model because it was definitely in the late 80's when I was a kid. I think you can still get new made VCR's, but like walkman's they are hard to come by.
I just talked the missus out of donating our old sony walkman sport to the thriftstore. It still works! It's gasket is all shot, so I wouldn't get it wet if I could help it, but it can play tapes AND FM radio! AND it's YELLOW!!
That's awesome. I'm still a tape addict cause I love the sound of analog. Even when the tape has some wear and it starts to sound kind of warped. Tapes are making a comeback. A lot of my friends in bands are releasing tapes and selling them. It's slightly cheaper than CD's, and the nostalgia factor makes selling them easy.
But you need this decomposing old hardware to play them!
I have SO MANY good tapes - but I liked to play them on the boat, and that tape player died [sadface]. I gotta find a replacement one of these years... I bet like you pointed out with VCRs and walkmans and all that, there probably still are cassette player radio thingies out there, but now they're an overpriced specialty item or whatever. Which is gay.
Some guy was selling one that might have been adequate at the last marina swap meet I went to [perhaps the last one ever the way things have been...] but I didn't trust his "it totally works great!" because why did he take it out if it works so great?! Or he stole it maybe, but he looked to fairly complected for that sort of thing...
