Weird.

I think the VCR my folks had might have had a pneumatic remote. It only paused and unpaused, and it looked like a little hose, and the button had a bunch of travel and was all squishy. Idunno, not like I was allowed to take it apart and find out, that thing cost thousands, and in 70s dollars!

My grandparents had one of those I think. It stayed attached to the VCR yeah?

Yeah, I am pretty sure it did.

and the tuner for it was a separate box with a little button for every channel horizontally. I think.

Yep, sounds familiar. Granted this was almost thirty years ago, but I remember it fairly well.

Holy crap. Now that's amazing. I never saw anything like that!

y'know, it was probably just a wire in a really weird protective insulator that was smushy like a hose and my youthful imagination just decided it must be pneumatic because... idunno, because kids are dumb! It was "portable", so the tape recorder part of it could be carried like a massive heavy purse, along with it's gigantic camera that could be plugged into it. I think they used it that way exactly once, carried around anyway, because the battery was huge and died quickly and... well yeah.

The camera had zoom and pause on it, though... but I'm thinking the squishy remote pause button might have been sort of for remote starting and stopping of the camera, for weird gross 70s people filming themselves doing... something.
