If you think so I feel I must recommend Blood Meridian. It’s an earlier work by Cormac McCarthy and there’s a character called Judge Holden in it. Anton Chigurh is only the PG version of Judge Holden. That character still haunts me, and having found out he was loosely based on a real life person added quite a bit to the mystique.

I could imagine Cormac McCarthy as just a simple dude who tends a modest garden and sometimes sells vegetables at the farmers market.

Nah, there is something magnificently dark inside that man. I don’t envy him his thoughts, but am eternally grateful he committed some of them to paper.
