Charlie's family was poor because the above bodies men chose to lie in bed and do nothing while the family starved. You can do great and terrible things when you dont need to worry about osha standards. But you are right that there are striking parallels between that Britain and this one. The difference is the oompa loompas were grateful and did not have an insane pedophile god.
