Wow I forgot about that, "nigger toes". I don't remember them being labeled in the store one way or the other, but I absolutely remember them being called nigger toes. As we got more "progress" we just said it quieter.

I never even saw a black in person until I was in my teens. My family didn't have a TV until 1967 and It was in high school that I met a black person. She was the librarian.

You're lucky. I had to be around them at an early age. And it never got easier. Always a hassle, always drama, and that doesn't include their much deserved reputation for violence.
