I dunno about percentage. I live in the city, and have a smallish backyard. But I dug my own firepit and except for a few days a year there is no law against me using it.
Thats good. Seems to me like most suburbs have burning laws. Dont have a fire or karen across the street will turn you in. I got away from that crap years ago though. And i have a neverending supply of wood to burn on my land. Few years back i decided to torch my field and i damn near lost control of it. Miles of timber around. I wont be doing that again. Still, perfectly legal for me to do.
Controlled burns always make my hair stand up. Burn piles not so much.
Yeah this was only "controlled" in the loosest sense of the word. Didnt make my hairs stand up, it made them burn and stink. As i said, i wont be pulling that shit again. If i really need to ill get my dnr friend over to help, hes a professional at that shit. First time i met him in fact was when he was doing his professional pyro thing.
Burn piles bother me, but I guess that's because i live so close to mine. I keep it well away from the fire pit. Well, except the pieces my dogs decide to drag around the yard.
Just have some tube steaks on sticks at the ready on those days and it becomes a grill.
