The European nobility called it "primae noctis" (first night). It was in Europe through the Middle Ages. Richard the Lionheart used it as a tool of conquest, to try to "breed out" the Scots.
This is why I'm not pro dictator ever because they can just show up at your house and be like guess what, I'm gonna fuck your wife and your mom and there isn't jack shit you can do about it.
and there isn't jack shit you can do about it in reality.
I might take neonazis/fascists and monarchists a bit more seriously if they at least had some discussions about how to prevent getting a non-benevolent dictator.
.. that and a plan beyond waiting for Hitler to resurrect.
In the grand scheme of things this matters, and in a dictatorship it can happen. I'm not advocating direct democracy either, but there is a middle ground.
