Intel has jumped into riscv to compete against arm. This also includes in the embedded realm. Intel is planning to make these with their modern fab techniques. So performance should be stellar if they so choose.
The catch is, expect them to extend with custom, proprietary extensions and accessories. Regardless, potentially a good start in the right direction.
