“My son is quadriplegic, his attackers are outside” After 2 years of hospitalization, Lorenzo, 21, is back in his home. In August 2020, he was hit by two individuals as he returned from an evening with friends. He is now an incomplete quadriplegic.

08/25/22 Lorenzo returned home after almost two years of hospitalization. "Finally, it feels good" , sketches with a smile the young man, aged 21, who saw his life shatter the year of his twentieth birthday. He has been an incomplete quadriplegic since his attack on August 24, 2020 in the parking lot of the Lattes swimming pool, when he was returning from a party and extending the party with his friends.

From the first elements of the investigation, it appeared that an individual had “rushed” on Lorenzo and had made him fall into a ditch and according to witnesses this individual and another, would then have knocked him to the ground at the level of his neck. One of them with his knee.

(…) In this case, five people were indicted in criminal proceedings for intentional violence in a meeting resulting in permanent disability. All under judicial supervision, three of them initially imprisoned, were released four days later following an interim release before the Court of Appeal, an extremely rare procedure.

A decision that Lorenzo's family has been living very badly for two years. “We see them all the time, they go to nightclubs, to the football match! Judicial control is not respected at all, they live in peace while for us everything stopped on August 24, 2020. We reported it each time to the police services but nothing is happening!” , are indignant Elise and Lorenzo's father-in-law, convinced of the risks of consultation between the respondents.

Time seems very long to this family who feels very “alone” in this titanic fight. “We had to take it all on. We had to sell our house, which we had finished paying for, because it was impossible to bring it up to standard for Lorenzo's handicap ,” says Elise. When they found a new house for five, they had to do six months of work, at their expense for the moment, and find another accommodation in the meantime, far from being adapted to Lorenzo's situation.

11/18/2020 The young man was beaten up on the night of August 24, in a parking lot in Lattes, in the Hérault, where his friends were finishing their evening. Since then, unable to speak, he has still not been heard and his family is demanding justice.

“Everything stopped on August 24. I don't wish that on anyone. Our life has stopped!” The parents of young Lorenzo, 19, have been devastated since their son was nailed to a hospital bed, in the anesthesia and resuscitation department (Dar) of CHU Lapeyronie. Paraplegic to the chest, his arms and hands no longer function normally. Four of his cervicals were fractured and the spinal cord was affected.

The young Pérolien remained sixteen days in a coma. He breathes thanks to a tracheotomy, his lungs no longer working on their own. "He can't even eat, brush his teeth, go to the toilet…" , describes his mother Élise who, with the young man's stepfather, had to stop working to take care of him without knowing when he will be released. from the hospital: “He has already had five lung infections, he has almost died twice since he has been there”

Five defendants under judicial supervision Élise had the scene described to her by her son's friends: “He didn't participate in any fights, he didn't ask for anything. He was happy as always, he was dancing a few minutes before, we even see him on a video. He and his buddies didn't have time to get away. My son was immediately pushed into a ditch and two men attacked him. There is one who hit him on the back of the neck with his knee or his shin.”

A situation that his relatives live all the more badly as three individuals suspected of having committed violence on August 24, placed in pre-trial detention by a judge of freedom and detention at the request of the prosecution, were released and placed under judicial control four days later thanks to an emergency procedure for interim release before the Court of Appeal, where they presented guarantees of representation.
