He was a con-artist. I've checked the video and from what I could see, the "lead wire" was in fact a gold one coated with something that he took out (small lead colored ball) of the small crucible before grabbing the gold wire (that remained intact, since lead has a much lower melting point than gold. It takes much more energy to create gold outta lead, but not worth it.
