The yellow vests movement, its scope on November 17, 2018 as its subsequent development, took the radical left by surprise as did all the parties or observers. The first question that was asked, before 17 November and the following day, to all the components of this left, was: is this a « right » demonstration? Is the “fight against taxes” a “left” fight? The answers to these questions crossed all groups, all currents. We can describe the evolution of positions in this way: suspicion, then circumspection, finally, recovery.
