BLACK BLOC, WHEN A METHOD BECOMES A MYTH.
The Black Blocs became a media object in the late 90s in the context of major protests against the G8 or G20. At that time, they had an ancient history since the first Black Blocs appeared in the early 80s in West Germany within the radical left (autonomous, anti-fascist …). The Black Bloc is neither an organized movement nor the symbol of an ideology. It is a method of demonstration: dressing in the same way in order to be less identifiable by the police. It is therefore a search for anonymity which turns into a paradox since the black uniform designates the wearer as a potential troublemaker.
