I've been working on these for a few days now. Takes about 30 minutes to fully calculate/render the fractals and shadows (on my PC). After that I can change the color palette and lighting effects instantly. I took a few images at each zoom level to show the effect different lighting, colors, and fog can have on the generated fractal.

Formulas/Parameters used (pic8.co)

0x (pic8.co)

507x (pic8.co)

20,003x (pic8.co)

  • Only did one image for this zoom level

55,090x (pic8.co)

704,800x (pic8.co)

98,970,000x (pic8.co)

377,700,000x (pic8.co)

24,900,000,000x (pic8.co)

2,970,000,000,000x (pic8.co)

  • Album (pic8.co)

  • The fractal starts to lose detail here. I could crank the settings even higher and wait 1-2+ hours to render, but none of these images are really worth the trouble. They are cool, but not max out my CPU for over an hour cool.

EGA/CGA sucked ass for rendering fractals.

The Amiga video modes stunned so many people, back in the days.

Arcade quality graphics at home, at that time in history... Huge!

I could not stand the CGA palette. Light Magenta is one of the gayest colors ever. And the colors were even worse if you were using composite output instead of a RGBI monitor it made the palette even more pastel looking.
