Mandelbulb 3D (MB3D) (mandelbulb.com) is a free 3D fractal imaging software available for Windows OS. It is a user-friendly application that generates different fractal objects from nonlinear equations. As a 3D rendering application, its features include shadow-and-glow-effects, color, depth-of-field, and specularity.

Mandelbulber (sourceforge.net) is a free software that renders 3D fractals including BulbBox, Mandelbox, and JuliaBulb. Its features include key-frame animations, depth of field, and complex 3D shading. It runs on Windows and Linux.

Apophysis (sourceforge.net) is an open-source fractal generator allows you to edit, create and render fractal flames. With its scripting language, you can directly access different components of the fractal, adjust the coloring and location. You can apply random edits to the images using the software's mutations window. Apophysis can be used in Macintosh and Windows.

JWildfire (blog.overwhale.com) is a very powerful and flexible flame fractal generator that has been battle-tested by numerous fractal artists from all over the world. As the spiritual successor of the award-winning special effects program Wildfire\7PPC for the Amiga, its roots go back about 25 years. The software is java-based and runs on almost any platform. It might not be as fast as native application, but it runs rock-solid and allows the rendering of huge images. An alternative GPU renderer is available. It is currently limited, but will be expanded continuously.

Kalles Fraktaler 2 + (mathr.co.uk) Want to create DEEP Mandelbrot fractals 100 times faster than the commercial programs, for FREE? One hour or one minute? Three months or one day? It works by using perturbation techniques and series approximation, to allow faster lower precision number types to be used for pixel iterations, based on a high precision reference. Cross-compiled to Windows from Linux MINGW64. Now with many other enhancements.

FragM (github.com) This is derived from Mikael Hvidtfeldt Christensen's Fragmentarium representing a compilation of features and fixes contributed by many users at FractalForums since 2013.

You may want to add JWildfire (blog.overwhale.com). I forgot to mention that this and MB3D were written by the same guy.

Sorry for the confusion but, JWildfire is free. The Steam download is a way for the author to make some money. The second link on the page is the free version download.

Both are the same program, no functional difference other than the Steam version has Java bundled in.

JWildfire V7.30 stable – Win/Mac/Linux, you must install Java on your own – (27/11/21) (*.zip-archive) (jwildfire.overwhale.com)
