I would spread some butter on the bread slices and toast them in that pan, and also caramelize the onion with a little water and sugar.

I do that with the butter sometimes, but I was feeling lazy and just put some olive oil in the pan. You can never go wrong with caramelized onions!

I like to use olive oil too, but then a freshly crushed garlic clove has to join the party.
