This is something my grandmother used to make each year for Christmas. When she passed, my mother took over the making of. These are sweet and chewy-crispy and usually don't last long.

1/4 Cup butter 1/2 Cup sugar 1 Cup chopped nuts 1 Cup chopped dates 2 Cup crisp rice 1 tsp vanilla 1 egg Coconut

In a double boiler, cook sugar, egg, dates, and butter until thick. Remove from heat, add vanilla, nuts, and dates. Mix together and let cool for 3 minutes. Make slightly smaller than golf ball size drops, and roll in coconut.

We usually made a number of different colors of coconut with food dye.
