Sometimes it is cheaper. Other times it is porkbarrel. Ethanol in gasoline was pushed through by Tom Daschle, former senator from South Dakota while he was Senate Majority Leader. He also pushed through anti-sugar, pro corn syrup regulations. And what does South Dakota produce? Corn. Lots and lots of corn. Once that was done Daschle left the senate and is now a lobbyist. He is making even more money while avoiding public scrutiny.
