The number of things that have to go wrong in order for this to happen is high. Someone is going to jail for negligence.

Have things changed? When I was a jumper one had to have a reserve chute and it had to be repacked by a licensed parachuter rigger, at regular intervals. I had a major malfunction once and was very glad to have my reserve chute. When someone died, we said they bounced. Because that's what happens when a human body hits the ground at 120 mph...

I don't know if things have changed or if something went horribly wrong at this one site. I like the term bounced, although I don't remember hearing it used where I used to jump.

I did it for a few years, had 28 jumps, never heard that term either. Cultures are different with each landingzone though.
