Any workout gurus want to help a relative newb?

What is the consensus on various supplements and pre/post workout shit?

Occasionally I'll have a Gatorade or protein shake after a workout but that's about it. I'm honestly clueless about pre workout stuff. I've always avoided it because I workout in the evening and my food cutoff is 5 pm so I don't want any calories after that. Do they work? WTF are they? Should I start using them?

Supplements are something else I'm wondering about. I take zinc and magnesium nightly to help with sleep and hopefully increase testosterone. Does it work? I have no idea. Somedays maybe, most of the time - I'm not so sure. Does anyone recommend anything that would enhance testosterone or have any other benefits? I've even seen estrogen blockers. Would that be a good idea?

EDIT: I also take vitamin C, D, K, beet root daily.

Or am I over thinking this and just need to work out harder/longer?

Beet root to help my blood pressure. Supposedly anyways.

Maybe when I'm at the doctor in a few weeks, I'll ask him to test my testosterone. If I can convince him to do it.

Old fucker!

Me too. Eat a couple beetroot gummies a couple times a week. No need to take my blood pressure - I can sense when it's elevated. Used to take them by before I biked - the nitric oxide they liberate dilates the blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure but also increasing oxygen transport.

They say they're naturally cherry flavored, but they still taste like fruity dirt. Kinda like that.

Ha, not that old but I neglected my body for a long time. Been trying to fix that.

I used to take the gummies but didn't want the extra calories so I just do a capsule in the morning and one at night.
