Any workout gurus want to help a relative newb?

What is the consensus on various supplements and pre/post workout shit?

Occasionally I'll have a Gatorade or protein shake after a workout but that's about it. I'm honestly clueless about pre workout stuff. I've always avoided it because I workout in the evening and my food cutoff is 5 pm so I don't want any calories after that. Do they work? WTF are they? Should I start using them?

Supplements are something else I'm wondering about. I take zinc and magnesium nightly to help with sleep and hopefully increase testosterone. Does it work? I have no idea. Somedays maybe, most of the time - I'm not so sure. Does anyone recommend anything that would enhance testosterone or have any other benefits? I've even seen estrogen blockers. Would that be a good idea?

EDIT: I also take vitamin C, D, K, beet root daily.

Or am I over thinking this and just need to work out harder/longer?

Most supps are expensive pee for most people. Assuming you're eating right the average person doesn't need a lot of additional. If you were doing pro athlete or Mr. Olympia level training maybe, but most stuff fit the average person just trying to be healthy and look good at the beach is unnecessary.

Protein shakes if you do it because it's convenient to eat clean, sure, but there's nothing magical about it. You don't need pre workout, just caffeine if you like that kind of thing before you workout. Like a couple cups of coffee is as good as NO or anything and way cheaper. The only thing I would say is worth it is creatine. And even with that simple creatine monohydrate is all you need. All the other forms are bullshit ways to jack up the price.

Protein shakes are liquid goyslop. Read the ingredients. Fuck that. Tried to find some for father who is diabetic, so he could have something later in the evening.

Zero options are worth it.

As for vitamins I thought you just pee our what you can’t use…outside of doing like 50,000ui Jen the liver can’t keep up. But I don’t take any as my blood is good outside of muh cholesterol. Which I told the doctor, no not taking any statins. Fuck off with that. I’ll just die when the Lord decides. Then never went back to that doc. Wearing a mask to this day I’d guess. Stupid fuck.

There exist some protein shakes that are fine. You just have to really look for them. Naked Nutrition's unflavored is literally just whey powder. Daily harvest organic pea protein is literally just dried pea protein. Most brands load themselves with sugar and artificial crap to sweeten and flavor them up but still sell themselves as healthy, but clean ones exist.

But again the only point is if you're not able to eat enough protein normally, or you want something that is easy to eat on the go... they hold no magic power.

I'm not good at this subject and I am definitely not a guru but I write a response anyway :p

Only thing I can think of is more vitamin D if you blood level of vitamin D is low. I had that problem and vitamin D supplement definitely helped, I got a bit higher vit D and testosterone in blood tests and got stronger after that. Don't guess, take a blood test, too high vitamin D is said to lead to calcification of blood vessels.

Might be obvious but: Keep a notebook where you write all results and what supplements you're on then you see what supplements and exercises work.

I'm a huge proponent of vitamin D. Changed my life energy wise.

I had a vitamin D test last year showing that I was low. And that even with my doing 2000 iu a day. I've since upped that to 5000 iu a day and am planning on another blood test in a few weeks to check my levels.

I'd like to have a full vitamin panel done but my shit ass insurance requires some kind of diagnosis for each and every blood test.

ok. 2000 IU is too much for me I take about 1500 IU per day. Seems like it's very different for different people so that's why blood tests are so important but you already knew that.

Used to be the same in Sweden kinda and that sucked, but nowadays I can pay about $150 to get a whole slew of blood values including testosterone.

Literally the only supplement worth taking is creatine monohydrate. It is extremely cheap, well studied, and safe.

Higher doses also have beneficial cognitive effects.

Have you had your testosterone checked? If well into your 30s or older, it can be depressed/low. Particularly a concern if you're feeling off or lethargic.

beet root

For oxygenation, or...???

Beet root to help my blood pressure. Supposedly anyways.

Maybe when I'm at the doctor in a few weeks, I'll ask him to test my testosterone. If I can convince him to do it.

Old fucker!

Me too. Eat a couple beetroot gummies a couple times a week. No need to take my blood pressure - I can sense when it's elevated. Used to take them by before I biked - the nitric oxide they liberate dilates the blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure but also increasing oxygen transport.

They say they're naturally cherry flavored, but they still taste like fruity dirt. Kinda like that.

Ha, not that old but I neglected my body for a long time. Been trying to fix that.

I used to take the gummies but didn't want the extra calories so I just do a capsule in the morning and one at night.

What I've learned after years of gymming and trying almost everything is that the supplement jew works overtime to scam the goyim into buying overpriced shit that they don't really need.

It depends on the individual, but most of what you see is just trash. What really worked for me personally is caffeine and coffee, but those are addictive and can make you jumpy, take it with care if you really need it. Protein powders work wonders on weight gain and getting you all bulky together with proper diet. Creatine didn't do a damn thing for me, other than make me bloated because it keeps the water in. Omega 3, aka fish oil, I thought was trash, but after years of not taking it and doing a quick monthly course suddenly it helped with skin and digestion. Zinc had always worked, especially in the potency department.

All in all, it's better to just fix your diet instead of relying on all these magic powders. Eat plenty of fish, meat, fruit, berries, veggies. You can top it off with an inexpensive multivitamin after that, it's no biggie. Other than that, I got wrist, knee and elbow wraps to keep my joints safe and that helped a lot, that was probably the most worthwhile investment overall.
