Have consistently done so for 6 months
You just exert a little more effort every time because you're getting more fit. That shit's not going to last forever. At some point you're going to find your real fit level and then the real work begins.

Nice! This is actually similar to what I've been doing with my own cardio work (I do both strength training and cardio work that's supplementary to a sport that I do). Nice to know that I had the right idea to begin with.
Do you only do rowing? You're body will adapt and then it becomes all mental. To keep moving forward you need to keep changing the routine. Sometimes over training occurs as well. I learned the hard way.
