In my field (ill blanket 'field' under STEM), there is in increasing volume of women, the vast majority of which simply do not belong. I attribute this based on the fact many of this majority have been 'given the opportunity' based one the 'someone you know' rule, as opposed to myself and many like me that had to struggle to break in - the same holds true for 'professional academics' that want to stack master degrees on top of each other instead of actually working to gain the experience. That said, I have met a handful of brilliant women in the filed that have actually attributed to the profession and the overarching BOK (body of knowledge) - this is a very few in numbers of women in the aggregate, just to add perspective. There is also a fine line that must be delineated between a 'head-strong woman' and a 'pushy bitch that elbows the ribs because that is her only recourse since she has nothing substantive to offer'
