So I've read a couple things that have presented these conclusions. At the end of the day, if it is true, then in comes down to mechanics.

There are two potential ones. First is that toxoplasmosis, and the other is perpetual histamine response if they make your house dirty.

So the theory would go that if you keep your place clean you would be immune. But if you have a lot of hair, and you live in filth with your cats, and you have all kinds of cat shit in your hair, and you never take a shower. The constant histamine inducing filth that you might breath in could fuck with your hormones. Which could be why this is more noticed with women.

I'm really talking out my butt but I think there might be something to it. It may even be evolutionary. If you live in filth it might be to your advantage to morally justify wanting other people's stuff.
